Winter Photos of Paris, Taken with a Film Camera

La Samaritaine, which was the BEST department store in Paris. It is now closed. I took these photos of Paris a while ago with my Canon film SLR I bought on eBay. These photos were taken all around Paris during the colder months of the year. L'Opéra Garnier de Paris. Worth the visit if you like classical music If you are visiting Paris, one of my favorite guides is National Geographic’s Paris guidebook. Read more...

Eating live octopus (산낙지) in Korea (video)

산낙지, live Korean octopus Korean food is full of surprises. If you thought you’ve tried it all, think again… Unless you have already tried live octopus (산낙지), a delicious dish seemingly served “alive”. The octopus is actually and fortunately dead, but it seems as though the nerves still want to communicate something to the diner. The video below shows my own experience of eating live octopus in Seoul (safe for work but not for sensible stomachs). Read more...

2011 London Trip (Part 2)

Below are some other pictures I took in London during my 2011 trip there. As with my previous post, these were also taken with my mom’s Canon SLR (I can’t remember what film it was unfortunately, if anybody can tell, please leave a comment below!) This trip was my first time with this SLR, but I think most pictures turned out to be pretty decent. It was a lot of fun shooting with that camera! Read more...

2011 London Trip (Part 1)

London is a very accessible city from Paris, so it is very inciting for Parisians to spend a few days in London. The second I visited London was in 2011 for a four-day trip under the auspices of Cupid. As expected, the weather was disastrous on most days, but that did not prevent me from taking lots of pictures with my mom’s film SLR. Below are some of them. The Wellington Arch in London London is a very interesting city, mixing classic and modern architecture like no other city in Europe. Read more...

GoGet'EmDogz

Do you want to look fancy at a potluck without much effort? Victor TheFrenchGuy™ is bringing you the ultimate solution, NoStress® guaranteed. Everybody loves sausage, and everybody loves croissants, that’s a well-known fact. Make these mini-sausage croissants, aka GoGet’EmDogz, and be the star of the night. The ingredients you need are: - Dijon mustard, - Your favorite kind of sausage, but smaller is better (I rarely say this); and as many as you like (for wiever sausages, 1 yields about 4 GoGetEmDogz, so 8 yield about 32,) - Egg yolks, - Some Crescent dough (I bought the Pillsbury Grands Big & Buttery Crescents, but it is very buttery and not very crunchy, so you may want to try something else); you need about 2 rolls for 8 sausages, - Nutmeg powder (optional, but that’s the secret ingredient. Water and Peacocks in the Bois de Vincennes, Paris

Peacock in the Bois de Vincennes park in Paris, France The Bois de Vincennes is a nice park in the east edge of Paris, with a gigantic lake and nice activities. Rowboats can be rented, and children can mount ponies for a 10-min ride. The best part about this park is that it is easily accessible by subway (Metro Line 8, Porte Dorée stop); because of that, a lot of Parisians living on the east side have made it their preferred place for picnics and outdoor activities such as jogging or tanning. Paris, in Black and White

Notre Dame, Paris Black-and-white pictures are always interesting to take. The photographer has to think about the quantity of light that will be reflected by subjects rather than colors, and composition becomes all the more important. All the pictures in this post were taken in 2012 with a Canon film SLR directly on a black-and-white film (I believe it was a Kodak T-MAX 100), except the last one which was taken in 2015 with my Canon Rebel T3i (EOS 600D) and then processed with DxO Optics Pro and DxO FilmPack. Some pictures of New York during the 2016 Snow Storm

The weather conditions were just terrible in New York during the 2016 snow storm on Saturday 23rd, 2016. These pictures were taken in Downtown Manhattan;[I also previously posted the pictures of the aftermath][/post/wall-street-snow/]. Stone Street covered in snow The strong wind made it really hard to walk and the snow prevented some city services from running efficiently, but I still managed to get out of the hotel room that day to go get lunch. Squirrels

I love taking pictures of animals. It is very rewarding to get a decent shot when they are moving so fast and—more often than not—in the opposite direction from the camera. The picture above and the picture below were taken in Battery Park, New York City, the day after the disastrous 2016 snow storm. Unfortunately, my pop-up flash was broken, so the squirrel looks a little dark… Read more...

New York Panoramas (2016 Snow Storm)

Panorama from Battery Park after the 2016 snow storm that paralyzed New York with tons of snow. On the right is a Citi bike stand, but who wants to ride them in that snow. This picture was taken in front of the National Museum of the American Indian, in Downtown Manhattan. Battery Park was splendid after the storm, and a lot less crowded than usual. Read more...
