First Day in Jeju Island!

This is Part 2 of my '15 trip to Korea. Part 1 is available here. I got to Gimpo Airport (김포공항) early in the morning after what amounts to maybe five hours of sleep; the Lotte City Hotel offers a free shuttle service to the airport, but it is also possible to walk there by using the subway access inside the Lotte Mall. The flight was really short, less than two hours, but it was enough for the entire plane to hear me snore my way to Jeju. Read more...

Flight to Korea

My Korea Times contest entry won me a ticket from Seoul to Jeju-island, and I used that as an excuse to travel to Korea during Spring Break. Many people told me that it was a crazy idea to have such a long flight for only eight days in Korea, but I paid them no mind as I was leaving deep fried butter and grits for Korean fried chicken (치킨) and hotteok (호떡). Delicious Tteokbokki!

I could find some delicious Tteokbokki in Indianapolis, but it was rather spicy! Delicious Tteokbokki!

Spring Break in New York City

Going to New York was a very old dream of mine. I bought the National Geographic City Guide two years before even going to Seattle, that’s how bad it’s gotten. Studying in Seattle was therefore the right occasion to bite into the Big Apple. Thanks to my uncle and his lovely wife, I was able to stay a full week in New York and enjoy great sightseeing and delicacies from all around the world. Read more...

Pilgrimage to the Coke® Museum

I had to do something fun and uplifting after I left Seattle University, so I planned a one-day pilgrimage to the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta. I made sure to be alone on this trip to fully appreciate this spiritual and culinary journey to Georgia, home of southern food and my beloved drink. I took the subway to get to my downtown hotel from the airport, as it was the cheapest and most direct way to get downtown. Read more...

I can speak like Dory! (Visit of Seattle Aquarium)

So there I was, at the Seattle Aquarium, looking at weird fish and birds that I'd never seen before. I ended up there with the Seattle City Pass, because I was like "I better get my money back off that sh*t!". As always in aquariums, I ended up reading the texts presenting the fish more than actually looking at them. And as always, I couldn't remember any of the names once I read them – it may have been easier if I'd taken Latin in school. Read more...

The Space Needle

I attended several immersion programs at Seattle University before classes started. I made a friend named Erica in one of them. At the end of the program we decided on a whim that we would go to the Space Needle the next day. And so we did. That's approximately the size of the Space Needle compared to the Eiffel Tower... The Seattle Space Needle is pretty small compared to the Eiffel Tower. Read more...

The Seattle Central Library (Too High for Me)

This afternoon I wanted to go to the City-Target of Downtown Seattle to buy the pillow protector I was missing. But on the way I ran into a strange building... That's right, the Seattle Central Library! This is not one of my pictures! This building was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and was opened in 2004. I had to go on the top floor! My First Twinkie

One morning I went grocery shopping at 7am because I was hungry (great) and to buy some Tide detergent (yay). I chose to shop at QFC on Broadway because it's the closest shop to the University and it's open 24/7. First I went pick up a Tide Pods box. I was already happy. But then I went to the snack aisle, hoping to find the "Popcorn, Indiana" popcorn that I had discovered three days before, but there was none. Read more...
